Let’s get ready to rumba! After six years of waiting, South African fans will once again have the privilege of witnessing how their favourite celebrities loosen their hips when the South African edition of the popular British dance competition, Dancing with the Stars makes its long-awaited return to mzansi’s television screen.
The show is one that sees professional dancers pair with a celebrity to compete against other parings in a dance competition in a bid to win the title.
The last time the show appeared on our television screens was in 2018, with singer-songwriter Connell Cruise winning the competition’s first season.
Furthermore, the news publication The South African reports that the competition will soon be making its return for season 2.
This is thanks to an agreement between Primedia Studios and the BBC Studios-owned company Rapid Blue.
Confirming the news was Jan du Plessis, President of Primedia Studios who expressed his excitement about the opportunity.
“Primedia Studios is delighted to be joining forces with esteemed and prolific production company Rapid Blue, which also produced the country’s previous spectacular and much loved local edition of Dancing with the Stars.”
“We are incredibly proud to add this global phenomenon to our Primedia Studios fantastic ‘shiny floor’ content slate. It underlines our quest to bring the biggest and best local formats to mass South African audiences,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Rapid Blue, Ziyanda Ngcaba is just as excited. She stated that after South Africa’s dancers have been contributing to various other versions of the show across the world.
“It’s time to celebrate our local dancers, celebrities and the love of dance.”
