Brenda Mtambo’s journey into the music industry is as captivating as her powerful voice. Known for her unique sound that blends with various musical influences, Brenda’s path to becoming a musical trailblazer began in the most humble of settings: her primary school days.
In an interview with TRUELOVE, Brenda whose real name is Busezweni, discovered her passion for singing at a young age while being surrounded by traditional music. Although her birth name isn’t Brenda, the nickname stuck due to her singing ability and the influence of the famous Brenda Fassie.
“I discovered I could sing in primary school. I was an attention-seeking child and started singing in grade one. I also come from a musical family,” says Brenda while speaking to TRUELOVE.
Brenda’s musical journey included singing Maskandi, enjoying artists like Anita Baker and Busi Mhlongo and exploring tribal and traditional gospel music, thanks to her grandparents’ involvement in the Nazareth Baptist Church. Her venture into contemporary gospel began with her role in Joyous Celebration in 2005.
According to IOL, Brenda has shared a more personal aspect of her life: her struggle with chronic anxiety. While she has always been known for her powerful voice and musical talent, Brenda’s journey has also involved managing her mental health.
