There are many ways that our bodies use to let us know something somewhere is wrong with us. Sometimes, how the body fights foreign objects that have entered it can reflect as some kind of an illness whereas it’s just our bodies being there for us against the bad guys.
The latter is also the same when it comes to your lymph nodes swelling, the Cleveland Clinic explains that swollen lymph nodes, also known as adenopathy or lymphadenopathy, are swelling bumps on the neck that are a natural reaction to illness or infection. “Swollen lymph nodes mean your body’s immune system is working to clear away infection and/or invading viruses or bacteria.”
It is further stated that painful swollen lymph nodes can be found on one or both sides of the neck, armpits, under the jaw, and groin, there are approximately 600 lymph nodes throughout the body, with the exact count varying by person.
According to WebMD, swollen lymph nodes, resembling kidney beans, can cause tenderness or pain and symptoms may include a painful throat, runny nose, or fever, swelling of clusters of lymph nodes in various body locations, and hard lymph nodes that are immobile or rapidly growing.
Medical News Today claims that lymph nodes can swell due to various conditions, including autoimmune disorders, cancer, common infections, and medications. Localized lymphadenopathy is said to occur when only one area of the body swells, while generalised lymphadenopathy signifies a systemic disease.
The above source adds that risk factors for malignant lymph problems include being 40 years or older and being male at birth. “Lower body infections and injury to the legs can also cause swollen lymph nodes in the groin.”
