DJ and producer Zandimaz, whose real name is Zandile Mazithulela, has opened up about her journey back to music following her battle with a brain tumour. After facing one of the most challenging periods of her life, Zandimaz is doing what she loves once again, but not without acknowledging the hurdles she has had to overcome.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Zandimaz expressed her gratitude for her ongoing recovery, saying, “Life has been a roller coaster for me since I started this music. It’s a jungle for me, and being back is what I need as music keeps me.”
According to TshisaLIVE, Zandimaz underwent surgery in early March after experiencing a seizure while touring the UK in 2022, followed by another seizure weeks later while in Zambia. She described the onset of her condition, saying, “We thought it was just fatigue, and that’s when I went to see my doctor and they discovered I have a tumour. For a year I took a break, and then things got worse as I had anxiety and it was triggering my nervous system. I was going through different types of emotions. I couldn’t walk properly.”
Despite moments of considering giving up, Zandimaz is driven by her long-standing passion for music. Looking ahead, Zandimaz plans to release new music to help people escape their troubles and find solace, affirming her belief that, even amidst challenges, faith is crucial.
“I’ll be dropping more music that will help people forget about their problems. We might be going through a lot, but God is our saviour,” Zandimaz told Daily Sun.
In line with her commitment to her craft, Zandimaz has just released a new song, “BAWO,” featuring OkanaNkosi and Thabzardemusiq.
