Two years after the tragic death of hitmaker DJ Sumbody born Oupa John Sefoka, the investigation into his murder has been classified as cold, this decision follows a lack of progress in the case.
DJ Sumbody, known for hits like Monate Mpolaye, was allegedly killed in a hail of bullets in Johannesburg, an attack that shook the South African entertainment industry to its core. However, two years later his killers remain at large and the case has not been solved.
According to Zimoja, sources within the police force confirmed that the case had been declared null due to a lack of progress. “The case has been declared null, which means it has been classified as cold. This also means that the case will no longer be investigated until new evidence comes to light,” the source said.
This development comes after Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni revealed that the killers of DJ Sumbody and his friend are still at large. Despite this, Tommy noted ongoing efforts to solve both cases, with police following up on leads as reported by The South African.
While the investigation may have stalled, DJ Sumbody’s family is determined to honour his legacy. According to publication FakazaNews, the family plans to celebrate Heritage Month by hosting a charity event to keep his memory alive. They aim to give back to the underprivileged community of Eyabantu Educare, home to over 200 children, by donating more than R100 000.
