South African viewers will soon be taken on a historical journey of exploring the rich life of one of the country’s most profound leaders, the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
This comes after it was announced that a four-part documentary would be released that will give viewers an inward look into the life of the former freedom fighter from his humbled beginnings of growing up in an apartheid-governed South Africa to becoming a contributor of change in our new democracy.
According to the news and entertainment publication, the SowetanLive, the documentary is titled The Arch and has been created by emerging production company, Attuned You in partnership with Arena Holdings and the SABC.
Speaking about what viewers can expect, the series producer Eddie Mbalo highlights that there will be overwhelming amounts of emotions. The documentary will feature interviews with many people who have been close to the Nobel Peace Prize recipient. The list includes family members as well as other struggle veterans including Dr Alan Boesak, Dr Brigalia Bam, Cheryl Carolus and many others.
“The Arch will make you laugh, and it will make you cry, particularly because the interviewees provide such emotional testimony of their experience with the late Archbishop Tutu in the struggle against apartheid.
Speaking to SowetanLive CEO of Arena Holdings, Pule Molebeledi said: “We are so excited to deliver this historic piece about a timeless man of substance to the South African public and the rest of the world.”
The first episode is set to premiere on Sunday, 6 October at 21h30.
