Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton Mckenzie could soon be smiling from cheek to cheek as he recently secured himself two nominations ahead of this year’s Feather Awards.
The announcement was made at the Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Despite being a minister for less than a year, the proud leader of the Patriotic Alliance has earned the respect of millions of South Africans due to his hands-on approach to creating change in his department while being transparent in his decision-making abilities.

Earlier this year, the newly elected minister was praised when he revealed the names of those who have benefited from public monies and received the Covid-relief fund for struggling artists during the pandemic, he furthermore also announced that the department would not be sponsoring super fans to attend major sporting events, and has begun putting plans into place to host major events like the Formula 1 racing in South Africa.
Due to his lively presence, it is reported that he has now been nominated in the categories of Socialite and the Diva Extraordinaire of the Year. According to Citizen News, the Socialite of the Year category recognises those who are seen at the “opening of an envelope or an erection of a stop sign,” which perfectly summarises the minister’s attitude towards his obligations.

The theme of this year’s event will be focusing on inclusivity.
Telling more on the theme is the co–founder of the awards Thami Kotlolo who said that it was about, “reminding ourselves that our community thrives when all voices are heard and celebrated.”
“We are committed to pushing boundaries and creating spaces where everyone can thrive,” she told those in attendance.
