The SAFTAs came, saw and conquered and this is how it went

This past weekend, the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand was transformed into an ethereal stage for the 18th annual coveted South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). The illustrious event brought together some of mzansi’s biggest names to shine a light on the extraordinary talent we witnessed on our screens this past year.

The night was made up of many beautiful moments, from the electric vibes between our favourite celebrities to their daring fashion looks, all the way to the actual awards ceremony that brought everyone together. Our A-listers were also treated to some entertainment, where they could do the watching and enjoy, for a change.

Among the many winners was Thembinkosi Mthembu, who had scored himself a total of four nominations, shining with a deserved win in the Best Actor in a TV Drama category. Unfortunately, he did not win in the other three categories.

As expected, Shaka Ilembe shone the brightest as the limited series snatched a total of 12 awards, which included Best TV Drama.

Another notable victory was Zikhona Sodlaka finally getting the recognition she deserves after devoting many years of her career to providing a high level of entertainment to mzansi, taking home the Best Actress in a Telenovela for her role as Nombulelo on Gqeberha.

We could not finish off this recap without an honourable mention of the diverse fashion looks that our celebrities dared to put on, of course, some were a hit, and some were a miss.
