When some of South Africa’s most creative minds merge – only success can follow.
Recently, the South African-born multi-award-winning actress Charlize Theron and local actor Thabo Rametsi have come up with an exciting project by announcing the introduction of their first-ever comic series called Imbokodo.
The word Imbokodo, which directly translates to “rock” and is often used in the saying, “Wathint’abafazi, wathint’imbokodo,” meaning, “you strike woman, you strike a rock” – is said to be a project which is focused on honouring the legendary female warriors of Africa.

“When we first started building the world of Imbokodo, we aimed to create something that would resonate deeply with audiences everywhere,” Thabo said in a statement.
“Bringing African warrior women to the forefront of this narrative is an ode to the strength and resilience of African heritage.”
Meanwhile, Charlize expressed her excitement after seeing the vision of the project and was eager to have her newly launched media venture, Secret Menu join forces with Thabo and his business partner Thabiso.
“When Thabo and Thabiso from Nguniverse Studios first brought us this idea, we were so impressed with this epic scope and emotional depth of the world they created, centred around incredibly powerful female African warriors.”
“We knew that we had found a perfect home in Dark Horse when they recognised the same potential in Thabo and Thabiso’s vision.”

Charlize added that she cannot wait for the rest of the world to meet the indomitable warrior women of Imbokodo.
Volume 1 of the series is currently already on the shelves of all comic book stores while the rest are expected to be on shelves in February, April and June 2025.
