Recently, I had the privilege of attending one of the most profound festivals that offered individuals priceless insights into how they can realise their greatest potential, both financially and personally.
The Momentum Science of Success Festival 6th edition held in Sandton, Johannesburg which ran over two days, kickstarted with an enlightening panel discussion led by seasoned broadcaster, author Dan Moyane and executive head of brand marketing Qhawekazi Mdikane followed by the main event which provided guests with more in-depth expert-led discussions throughout the day on this year’s theme of ‘habit stacking’.
The programme of the festival featured an incredible lineup of experts and speakers, including Robin Sharma, a globally celebrated author of 18 bestselling books; Vangile Makwakwa, the founder of Wealthy Money and personal finance coach; Paul Nixon, the Head of Behavioural Finance for Momentum Investments; Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, award-winning radio presenter and founder of SA’s #1 parenting podcast; Niven Postma, former CEO of the Businesswomen’s Association; Emma Harris, marketing industry powerhouse; Thabo ‘T-Bo Touch’ Molefe, successful DJ, TV presenter, and entrepreneur; Dr. Kobus Neethling, specialist in creativity and innovation.
I had the opportunity to explore the powerful idea of habit stacking, learning how small, consistent actions can reshape my financial journey. The conversations delved into how our financial habits are shaped by cultural customs and individual values, offering practical guidance on creating lasting routines. I also discovered how generational archetypes, patterns passed down from previous generations, can interfere with my financial practices.
The masterclasses provided help one to understand how these influences tie into your identity and how they can be reshaped to benefit your financial future. Another major highlight was discovering my money personality—whether I’m a saver, spender, or risk-taker. Recognising this has given me clarity on how to stay within my financial lane and make decisions that align with my values, leading to a more secure, empowered future.
A personal highlight was chatting with Robin and Emma, whose presentations were truly inspiring. Their words left me motivated to implement the strategies discussed and push beyond my limits to achieve the success that I desire.
Being part of these thought-provoking conversations was invaluable. It became clear that such discussions are crucial for the future of South Africa, especially for emerging leaders. It has also led me to believe that young South Africans need to hear these insights to transform their financial futures and create lasting change in their communities.
