Following his snub at the 2024 Ballon d’Or Awards in October, Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams finally had his performances rewarded at this year’s CAF Awards.
The award ceremony took place in Morocco on Monday, where many of the world’s top African footballers were all celebrated for their outstanding efforts for their teams in this year’s footballing season.
Among those in attendance was the 32-year-old Ronwen, who managed to reach success with both club and country over the last few months – making 2024 a year to remember for the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper.

Earlier this year he was among the standout performers for South Africa at the African Cup of Nations, this comes after he took fellow Africans Cape Verde to penalties and ultimately knocked them out of the competition by saving four of their goal attempts. He also guided Sundowns to a seventh consecutive.
Last night saw Ronwen walking away with two awards in honour of his outstanding form. The first for Goalkeeper of the Year and second, for Interclub Player of the Year.
Taking to the stage to accept the award, he dedicated it to his support system back home who have pushed him to excel in his craft.
“It wasn’t easy, but you guys pushed me to be the player that I am today,” he said.
