Television personality Somizi Mhlongo is on cloud nine, after he recently had the opportunity to showcase his fashion brand, Sompire Kids, at this year’s New York Fashion Week.
The event is one of the biggest in the fashion industry and is held annually in February and September. This is where designers are afforded the opportunity to show their collections to potential buyers, the press, and the general public.
Taking to Instagram, the former Idols judge shared just how much the moment meant to him. He later shared some clips of the events that transpired in the Big Apple.
“When 3Apples Pictures SA asked me to give them Sompire Kids’ merchandise for their New York trip, I thought oh sweet they just want to wear them during rehearsals or just in between their New York Fashion Week gig since they’re taking part in a few shows.”
“Little did I know. I had not expected them to showcase my clothes on the big stage”.

Somizi first launched Sompire Kids in August 2023. In an interview with Sunday World, he described it as being a passion project that was two years in the making.
At the time, he revealed that there had been financial, courier, shipping, and design delays, as well as creating the website, but fortunately, it was fully operational by the time the brand was launched.
With the range having a slogan which read, “Brave enough to be yourself,” Somizi’s latest achievement has reaped the full rewards of his authenticity.
