Tyla scores a Nike endorsement deal – ‘It should’ve been Shebeshxt!’

Proudly South African rising star Tyla has proven that the sky is the limit in terms of all the doors that can and have opened up for her since stepping onto the global stage. In her latest venture, the youngster has landed a Nike endorsement, however, mzansi believes Shebeshxt was more deserving.

Anyone who has been following Tyla knows that she is no overnight success as the ‘Push 2 Start’ hitmaker has been hard at work for some years now. The many years of blood, sweat and tears are finally paying its dividends as she is on the road to becoming one of mzansi’s biggest exports, surpassing the likes of Mariam Makeba, Brenda Fassie and Hugh Masekela.

Recently, not only was it revealed that Tyla is set to be honoured with the ‘Impact Award’ at this year’s Billboard Women in Music, but she also has managed to bag herself a Nike endorsement deal and has already teased a potential Tyla shoe in the works.

“I mean, I’m a Nike girl. I love the brand. I’m really excited to work together, not only to wear the clothes but to hopefully create something with the team too. Maybe a Tyla shoe? That would be fire,” Tyla tells Nike Kicks.

Unexpectedly, the exciting news was met with some backlash and pushback from the South African audience as they expressed that they believed that local Lekompo sensation Shebeshxt was more deserving of such a deal. Since coming into the spotlight, Shebeshxt has proven to be a big fan of the brand as he has been seen proudly sporting Nike apparel from head to toe on most occasions.

However, some fans have cited his controversial reputation as the reason big brands such as Nike would be hesitant to support him. Furthermore, other users highlight Tyla’s international stardom and success, stating that Shebe’s local popularity does not remotely compare.
