Just when you think you’ve figured out TikTok trends, a not-so-new sound takes over—often from the most unexpected places.
Lately, the song “Sobonana Emathuneni” by Lusanda Spiritual Group (which translates to “We’ll see each other at the graveyard”) has been all over the app, with users using it to showcase the unfortunate situations that we often face daily as a people, especially the black community.
The app is well known for embracing all kinds of fun, including dark humour, which is why a song with such a heavy title is suddenly the internet’s favourite soundtrack. Many internet users have taken to TikTok and shared some of the most life-threatening things that have been accepted as normal to a point where we don’t fear these situations, hence it is easy to make jokes about them.
An example is the state of taxis in our local townships, it’s how the taxi drivers would never miss an opportunity to continue with business as usual and deliver people with his vehicle just because it doesn’t have breaks or maybe the door doesn’t close well. They will always make a plan, as much as it is a safty hazard, at least it takes commuters to where they’re going.
