Internationally acclaimed producer and DJ Black Coffee has finally opened up about the reasons behind the failure of his marriage to actress Enhle Mbali.
The couple’s divorce was finalized in 2019, with Enhle Mbali citing infidelity as the reason for the split. While DJ Black Coffee had remained tight-lipped about the divorce, he recently shared a candid interview where he discussed the factors that contributed to the demise of their relationship.
In the video, DJ Black Coffee reflected on how his upbringing and his parents’ failed marriage shaped his approach to relationships. He explained that he had created his own idealised version of marriage, largely influenced by his desire to prove himself as a successful partner.
“For me, I think I modelled marriage my own way. Alone. Because of my upbringing and my parents failing in marriage and then me not being raised by both of them, I created my own world where I’m like, ‘When I get a chance to do this thing, I’m gonna do it this way,'” he said.
DJ Black Coffee further explained that his need to control and lead in the relationship ultimately led to its downfall.
“So much that you wanna lead in everything. You wanna cover everything. You wanna be the driver of this thing so much that you forget that there’s someone next to you who holds the map. There’s a driver and there’s a navigator and both of you are important,” he added.
He also shared that his grand gestures, which he thought would bring joy and excitement to the relationship, were often met with lukewarm responses from Enhle Mbali.
“Every time I would make a move that I thought was big for us and it wasn’t received like that, a part of me was dying,” he said. He gave an example of one incident where he bought Enhle Mbali a luxury car, expecting tears of joy, but instead, she reacted with a simple “thank you.”
This lack of emotional connection and appreciation for his efforts ultimately took a toll on the relationship. DJ Black Coffee’s candid interview provides insight into the complexities of his marriage and the factors that contributed to its demise.
His willingness to share his side of the story offers a nuanced perspective on the challenges of relationships and the importance of communication and mutual understanding.
