TV presenter, Xolani Khumalo as well as his television crew recently left the court as free people after the murder charges against them were provisionally withdrawn.
The former Sizok’thola presenter and his television crew were charged with murdering an alleged drug dealer, Robert Varrie in July 2023. The incident allegedly occurred during his show where their mandate was to have drug dealers reveal more about their dealings and have them arrested. Unfortunately, things took a sour turn as Robert passed away after he was allegedly tortured in his rented home in Katlehong and was later dropped in hospital where it was confirmed that he was no more.
The charges of murder, robbery, and malicious damage were provisionally withdrawn at Palm Ridge regional court while the state will continue to dig deeper into investigations.
News24 reported that Xolani vowed to continue to eradicate drugs from the communities.
“A lot has happened since my arrest. I have lost many things. The ruling will open more opportunities to work. I will work more, I will work 10 times more than before. I would to have a conversation with the SAPS, to work together in fighting drugs. My team and I have put more resources into investigating and combatting drug trafficking,” he said.
Moja Love also announced that Xolani is back by popular demand for the fourth season of Sizok’thola.
“Season 4 of Sizok’thola will see an old favourite, Xolani Khumalo return to the screens and collaborating with various law enforcement organisations across the country, to fight the scourge of drugs,” read the statement.
Moja Love’s Head of Channel, Livhuwani Dagada said: “Xolani is known for his authentic and on-air engaging presence, and we have seen how he has built a strong connection with the viewers nationwide. His return will continue to strengthen the channel’s commitment to raising awareness on the plight of drugs and its impact in communities, in collaboration with law enforcement.”
