Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon has secured his future in the Windy City after signing a three-year, $40 million contract extension, with $31.25 million guaranteed. The deal, reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, makes Gordon the NFL’s highest-paid slot cornerback with an average annual value of $13.3 million.

Gordon, 25, becomes the second member of the Bears’ secondary to receive a long-term deal this offseason, following Jaylon Johnson’s extension in March. With Gordon now signed through 2028, Bears general manager Ryan Poles continues to lock down core players from his first draft class in 2022.

In 2024, Gordon recorded 75 tackles, five pass breakups, four tackles for loss, and one forced fumble in 15 games. He has also registered five interceptions over his three-year career and consistently ranked among the team’s top tacklers.

Two weeks ago, during the NFL’s annual meetings, Poles hinted that extending Gordon was a key goal heading into the offseason.

“In our exit meetings at the end of last season, I told all the guys that I needed to sit down with the new coaching staff to see how everyone fits,” Poles said on April 1. “We’ve had those conversations now, and Kyler is a guy we want here long-term. That’s a priority.”

New defensive coordinator Dennis Allen echoed that sentiment earlier this year. Upon his arrival in January, Allen singled out Gordon when asked about the Bears’ secondary.

“Kyler Gordon, I think, is an outstanding nickel player,” Allen said. “I have a vision for how we can utilize him. The foundation for what we want to do is already in place, and I’m excited to start working with him.”

Gordon has expressed nothing but appreciation for Chicago and didn’t appear concerned about when an extension would come. Speaking in March, he reaffirmed his desire to remain part of the franchise.

“I love Chicago,” Gordon said. “I love everything about it – the people, the history, the team, the community – so if this is where God tells me to be, this is where I’ll be.”

Drafted in the second round out of Washington, Gordon was the first player Poles selected after taking over as general manager. Now entering his fourth NFL season, Gordon will remain a vital part of a Bears defense that’s looking to grow under a new coaching staff in 2025 and beyond.
