It’s always hard getting your kids to eat their fruits and vegetables. We have the solution for you! We’ve put together a few quick, easy and healthy recipes to make with your children. Your kids will love making them – and eating them too!

PEANUT BUTTER BEARS

Ingredients: 

  • 4 slices of brown bread
  • 4 tbs smooth peanut butter
  • 1 banana, sliced into rounds
  • A handful of blueberries

Instructions

  • Spread a tablespoon of peanut butter onto each slice of bread.
  • Place the banana slices on the top corners and middle of the bread.
  • Place the blueberries in the middle of the bread for eyes and a nose.

TUTTI FRUTTI TREES

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 8 strawberries, halved
  • 1 apple, cut into thin slices

Instructions:

  • First cut your banana from top to bottom, then slice it into pieces.
  • Place the bananas in a curved shape in the middle of your plate.
  • Put all the strawberry pieces under the bananas.
  • Place the apple slices in a star shape above the bananas.

TIP: You can use any fruit you like. You can swap the strawberries for naartjie pieces, or swap the apples for kiwi slices.

BUTTERFLY CRUMPETS

Ingredients:

Crumpets:

  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp butter

Butterfly:

  • 1 small bunch of grapes, halved
  • 1 apple, cut into thin slices
  • 15 strawberries, halved

TIP: For an even healthier crumpet, you can add blueberries to your crumpet mixture.

Instructions:

  • Sift the flour in a large mixing bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar and beaten egg. Pour into the flour and gently mix until combined.
  • Melt ½ tablespoon of butter in a frying pan over a medium heat.
  • Add a large dollop of the crumpet mixture in the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until bubbles appear at the top of the mixture. Flip over and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Place the cooked crumpets on a plate lined with papertowel.
  • On your cooked crumpets, place grape halves at the top of the crumpet.
  • Add the strawberry halves just below the grapes for the body.
  • Place the apple slices upright for wings.

TIP: Crumpets can be a lot of fun for kids – try buying a few cookie cutters and make all sorts of fun shapes.
