Former YFM presenter Tumi Voster has moved to what many call greener pastures – being one of 5FM’s new radio personalities, hosting Win A Home and MCing the hottest gigs. We chat with the stylish starlet on the rise.
Describe yourself in three words?
Lover of life
You are currently the co-presenting on Win a Home on SABC 3. Please tell us how did this come about? How has the experience been so far?
So far the experience has been fabulous. I get to see the most beautiful homes and I am exposed to young, fresh talent and creativity with the young designer reality element of it. It’s definitely a great inspiration for my future dream home.
Hosting Win A Home has influenced me greatly. It’s shown me how to transform a house into a home.
According to you, what are the dos and don’ts of buying and redecorating a home?
There are dos and don’ts of buying and redecorating a home…
Dos
Always consider a theme to work around before you start buying items. Keep it simple. Less is more. Use statement pieces to bring character into a space. Texture, colour and light are some of the key elements to consider when decorating a space, and quality is everything.
Don’ts
Don’t copy and paste a design from what you see in a magazine. Always add a personal touch to make it more yours – it also adds character into a space and makes people feel at home.
Tell us about your stay at 5fm. What’s been the best part of it?
The best part of my stay at 5FM is getting on air and engaging with millions of listeners all over South Africa. It has been my dream to move to a national radio station since I started on radio, and I believe 5FM is perfect because it’s more than just a national station – it represents the current youth. It is diverse, cool and trendy, and relates with the South African youth culture.
With being the busy bee, do you ever have time to relax? If so what do you get up to in your spare time?
I’m a lover of food. So I love spending my free time trying out different restaurants that offer amazing food. Once a month I need to experience at least one different spot I’ve never been to before.
How would you describe your ideal guy?
My ideal guy is someone who makes me feel like the only girl in the world.
What would be the perfect date?
My perfect date would be lunch in Mykonos, Greece.
We know you to be a MC, radio host and television presenter. Do you have any other qualifications under your sleeve?
Apart from emceeing, being a radio host and television presenter I’m a Marketing Communications graduate.
What is the secret to you happiness?
The secret to my happiness is running my own race, being comfortable in my own skin and grateful for all I have.
This season, the in-thing for hair is…
Lace closures – a big trend right now for weave lovers. Edgy bobs, full tight curls and some colour (blonde, copper browns, chocolate browns and so forth).
What item can you not life without?
I cannot live without a statement pair of heels! I love my heels.
What’s the one word you can never stop saying?
Every girl’s favourite word is ‘SELFIE’. It’s the one word I cannot live without.
Music is…
A global language.
What tips and tricks do you have for those who would like to follow in your footsteps?
My advice to others aspiring to do what I do: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know it when you find it” – Steve Jobs
