Comedy lovers, you will be happy to know that DStv is bringing us The Bernie Mac Show. The Bernie Mac Show – featuring the late stand-up comedian – came about thanks to a segment from The Original Kings of Comedy revue where Bernie Mac took in his sister’s children after she entered rehab. The weekly sitcom soon soared in the ratings and is regarded as one of the funniest TV comedies of all time as Bernie and his screen wife Wanda raise his sister’s three children Jordan, Vanessa and Bryana.
Bernie Mac passed away in 2008 but his numerous performances in TV series and movies form an integral part of his untouchable legacy with programmes such as Sony’s The Bernie Mac Show once again reminding audiences of his comic genius.
The Bernie Mac Show played for more than 100 episodes winning some of television’s most prestigious awards including an Emmy. For his role in the show, Mac was honoured by the Television Critics Association for Individual Achievement in a Comedy as well as the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series four years in a row: 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
The first season of the acclaimed and side-splittingly funny The Bernie Mac Show premieres on Wednesday, October 8, at 19:35 on Sony (channel 127 on DStv) and continues every weekday in this prime-time slot.
Though he might be late, Bernie Mac’s comedy legacy lives on in this classic sitcom.
