Living On The Edge

We are often confined to our surroundings and the rules and regulations created by the institutions we find ourselves in. But sometimes it wouldn’t hurt to live a little out the box. There are rules that bind us to a particular institute. And, while you might be okay with the idea of being boxed, wouldn’t it be great to live not just outside the rule book, but on the edge, and take the path less travelled?

Put aside your diary

It’s great to know what you will be doing for the day, and to plan for life ahead, but to feel more alive you should try and forget about that book planner for a moment. Having a set of commands gives more room for control than it does for your own freedom. So cancel all scheduled work, and throw out the rule book to make some time for reckless behaviour – with caution of course.

Throw out that routine

You take the same route to work every day, do the same thing week after week – stop and try new things; change things around. Sometimes being ordinary can be unbearable, falling into the same trends as everyone else. Break free from the usual and be extraordinary. Make a new addition to your dress code, or change your hair. Dare to be bold by rewriting your own life.

Be the risk taker

It may be our insecurities that hold us back. The idea of just doing something out of the ordinary could have you feeling sick to your stomach because your nerves won’t let you be great. Doing something different can never be easy, so start with small risks like introducing yourself to new people, going bungee jumping, or quitting the job you hate for the job you could love. There is something amazing about not knowing what lies ahead that could bring light into your life, and bring in a fresh perspective and create versatility.

It’s all in the head

Mentally you are controlled by a set of principles, which keep you in check and organised. To part ways with the rules even if it’s just for a few hours or a day, you need to mentally free yourself from the control others may have over you. It’s all in the mind; if you think it, you become it. Freeing your mind transforms into a free you in the real world.

Loosen up

Sing with me now, “Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance”. Forget that you have two left feet and can’t really get the rhythm right. That one line from the song Shackles by Mary Mary should be your new anthem. Remove the shackles that hold you back, do not be afraid to be wired. Learn to live a little, do you your way, and don’t let others take you down because you choose to live on the edge. Be confident enough to believe you can do anything you want to do.
