Every year, celebs never fail to get us talking and 2014 was not short of news that grabbed headlines. These are the major news from international celebs.
Kim Kardashian breaks the internet
This year Kim Kardashian once again exposed her much talked-about butt to the world on a cover for Paper magazine with the caption “break the internet Kim Kardashian.” The photos were taken by French photographer Jean Paul Goude. They were a recreation of a similar photo he’d taken in the past titled “Champagne Situation.” While Kim didn’t manage to actually break the internet, there were over a billion memes and impressions of her butt on news sights and social media.
Instagram bans Riri
Rihanna, who was very proud of a topless shoot she did for Lui magazine, went on instagram to share the risqué photo. Instagram took the photo down and gave Rihanna a warning, saying that she will be banned from the site if she posts another nude photo. Rihanna, who’s notorious for being a “good girl gone bad”, ignored the warning and posted another topless image of herself. Riri was officially banned from Instagram.
But after six months she made an epic return to the #RIHjoice of many of her fans.
Wiz Khalifa cheats on Amber Rose
On 8 July 2013 musician Wiz Kahlifa and ex-stripper Amber Rose got married following the birth of their son in 21 February 2013. 2014 proved to be a bad year for the couple and fans were shocked to hear that Amber was filing for divorce. News later surfaced that Amber walked in on Wiz in bed with identical twins Jas and Ness. Amber, in her heartbreak, posted the following message on twitter: “The pain…I wake up every morning feeling like my best friend died….I never knew what true heartache felt like until now.”
Online petition: Beyonce please comb Blue’s hair!
A woman named Jasmine Toliver created a petition on Change.org begging Beyonce and husband Jay Z to comb Blue Ivy’s hair. Change.org is a website for social change and has petitions on world issues like global warming and food security. When you go on the site, you’re met with the organisation’s slogan that reads “The world’s platform for change.” Beyonce in a subtle and private manner responded to the petition by posting a handwritten note that read “Fine. I’ll do it. Ya’ll happy? Damn” with a baby comb at the bottom of the post.
Solange attacks Jay Z in the elevator
Solange assaulted Jay Z when they were in an elevator this year. The whole world saw it happen in a security tape released by a guard who was on duty at the time. Beyonce later released a statement saying that families fight, adding that Jay and Solange had worked things out. Beyonce’s father went to USMagazinie to talk about the incident. He suggested that the attack was a “Jedi mind trick” used to promote the On The Run tour. Mathew say, “All I know is the Jedi mind trick,” he continued “Everybody’s talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200 percent.”
Bill Cosby Accused of Sexual Assault
Janice Dickinson, former judge of America’s Next Top Model, is the latest to accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault, revealing the details in a book where she claims that Cosby drugged and raped her. Janice’s accusations bring the total number of sexual assaults against Cosby to 15. Cosby has been silent on the matter and recently said “I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos.”
Nude celebrity photo leaks
A group of people hacked into the phones of many female celebrities and stole nude pictures which they uploaded on their websites. Social media was abuzz when the photos were leaked. Victims ranged from Gabrielle Union, Meagan Good, Jill Scott to Jennifer Lawrence. The attacks targeted iPhone users. Apple said these were “very targeted attacks” and have since increased security measures on iCloud. The damage to all the women who were involved in the scandal, however, is already done.
Chris Brown’s controversial Ebola comments
The 2014 Ebola virus epidemic has been classified as the largest Ebola outbreak in history. More than 5 000 people have died since it started in March, most victims are from West African nations. Amid all the hype surrounding the disease, Chris Brown went to Twitter to grace us all with his insight on the matter. The singer tweeted “I don’t know…but I think this Ebola epidemic is a form of population control. Sh*t is getting crazy bruh.” The tweet got more than 45 000 retweets. “Fifty Grand”, a fellow tweeter, responded and said “Maybe one day I will hear something more intelligent than Chris Brown’s Ebola conspiracy theory that’s trending news.”
Kendall and Kylie Jenner Take Over Kardiashian Klan
These two Kardashian sisters were all over the news this year. Kendall’s modelling career sky-rocketed as she walked the runway for some of the greatest designers in the world. Kendall also took the decision to get rid of her famous last name and be known as just Kendall. Kylie, on the other hand, has made headlines for the drastic change in her physical appearance, more specifically, her lips. Kylie’s lips have become unusually luscious and full and the teenager has been criticised for undergoing plastic surgery.
Joan Rivers death
On 4 September, host of Fashion Police, Joan Rivers, suffered a fatal complication during a surgery to fix her vocal chords. Upon investigation, it was found that there were several errors made by the clinic during Joan’s procedure. UK-based publicatio, The Telegraph, reported that the doctor who performed the procedure, took a selfie with Joan while she was under anaesthesia just moments before she died. The comedian described her desired funeral in a book titled “I hate Everyone… Starting with me” she said, “When I die I want a wind machine so that even in the casket, my hair is blowing just like Beyoncè’s.”
