You just ate lunch and now you’re feeling tired and lethargic. All you want to do is get into your PJs and take a nap… but you still have half the day to get through! Instead of logging on to Facebook or Instagram, try these five easy tips that will help keep you motivated for the last few hours of working from home.
Here are 5 tips to beat the midday slump:
1. Eat a light lunch. It’s tempting to have a heavy carbo-loaded meal at lunch time – especially if you’re starving. This is a bad idea because a heavy lunch can make you feel very sluggish and sleepy. To avoid feeling starved by lunch time, remember to always have a good breakfast. You can also keep some healthy snacks on your desk to keep you energised until lunch time. Try these quick and easy recipes Fruity Raps and Broccoli and Cauliflower Primavera.
2. Get some fresh air. These days we tend to stay indoors – from home to the car and then straight to the office. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery to stay active and alert. Try eating your lunch outside instead of at your desk. If you have time, try popping into the gym for a quick workout. The increase in blood circulation is a fool proof way to keep motivated. If you don’t have time to hit the gym, try some of these tips to stay fit in the office.

3. Drink lots of water. Dehydration can make you very tired. We all know you’re meant to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, but it’s easy to forget when you’re having a crazy day at work. Keep a large bottle of water at hand, which is ready to drink whenever you need or set an alarm to remind yourself to stay hydrated.
4. Keep your sugar intake to a minimum. Cold drinks are loaded with sugar. They keep you alert for a while but that effect soon wears off and you become even more tired than before! Try to switch to water, but if you can’t go without a cold Coke, try the sugar-free option.

5. Tidy your workspace. After de-cluttering your workspace, you will feel refreshed and ready to take on the afternoon. You’re less likely to be productive if you have loads of papers and rubbish all over your desk. It’s easier to tackle a job when you’re focusing on just one thing. If you’re feeling sluggish after lunch, tidying your desk will also give you some time to recover before starting proper work.
