Award season continues! Last night Bona rubbed shoulders with the cream of South Africa’s TV and film world at the SAFTA awards nomination announcement, held at the Urban Tree in Sandton. Isibaya cleaned up the hotly-contested soapie stakes, even netting all three nominations for “Best Actor in a TV soap”, but some shows weren’t that lucky…
And the nominees are…
Akhumzi Jezile
Akhumzi is nominated for the “Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama” category for his role in Tempy Pushas along with Patrick Shai for Skeem Saam and Lidani Nkosi for Dreamworld.
Bongani Gumede
Bongani is up against Isibaya’s Siyabonga Thwala and Sdumo Mtshali for “Best Actor in a TV Soap”. Here he is pictured with the lovely Lorraine Mphephi (left) and Mampho Brescia (right).
Masasa Mbangeni
Masasa is nominated for the “Best Actress in TV Soap” category for her character Thembeka on Scandal. Here she is looking hot in black alongside The Wild’s Aubrey Poo
Nominees in the “Best TV Soap” category include: Isidingo, Generations, Scandal, Villa Rosa, Isibaya, 7 de Laan, Rhythm City, The Wild and Binneland.
Shona Ferguson
Well done to Shona and his wife Connie for their drama series Rockville. The show got a total of three nominations for “Best Director of a TV Drama”, “Best Production Design of a TV Drama” and “Best Make-up and hair stylist of a TV Drama”. Tumisho Masha (right) didn’t make the cut.
Better luck next time!
These stars still brought the glamour, but didn’t crack the nod this year.
Jessica Nkosi
Our March cover star, Isibaya actress Jessica looked ravishing in this red number. Although this newcomer to the soapie scene is not up for nomination, all we can say is… watch this space!
Matli Mohapeloa
Zabalaza’s Matli (and the rest of the cast) were unfortunately not nominated for anything.
Nomzamo Mbatha
Although she didn’t walk away with a nomination, Nomzamo still looked like a star. Not sure about the cape though. It wasn’t that cold!
KB Motsilanyane and Nolo Phiri
Rhythm City’s KB (left) looked fab in her little black number but maybe co-star Nolo’s leather- skirt-and-blue-tights combo put the judges off.
Mampho Brescia
We are surprised Mampho didn’t get nominated for her role as the gold-digging Iris on Isibaya. She’s been doing a great job!
Mduduzi Mabaso
Rhythm City’s Saffocate didn’t get the vote this year.
Slindile Nodangala
Generations Mam Ruby wasn’t nominated but neither were any of her co-stars. In fact, the show only got one nomination in the “Best TV soap” category.
Brighton Ngoma, Kagiso Modupe and Mapaseka Koetle
Scandal’s Quinton, Mangi and Dintle didn’t get nominated but they did support their co-star Masasa Mbangeni.
