A Home Away From Home – The Capital 20 West

Our online editor recently got invited to spend a night at The Capital 20 West in Sandton. She reflects on her experience at the hotel.

Their slogan is “Stay contemporary. Stay where you count.” That’s exactly how I felt when I was at The Capital 20 West.

ON ARRIVAL

When I googled The Capital 20 West and saw how close it was to Sandton city, I got nervous because when I go away, I like to go to a place a bit further from town. But, immediately when I arrived at the location, I didn’t feel like I was in a business district. It was tranquil; just the way I like it. I was warmly welcomed by the staff there that helped check me into my one-bedroom apartment.

ROOMS

Soft sheets and a comfy bed allow peaceful sleep. Free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV kept my partner and I connected. This was my favourite part about my whole stay; I didn’t even want to leave the room. I know they call them apartments, but I didn’t think that they actually look like it. The Capital 20 West is a great hotel if you still want to feel like you’re at home. The kitchens are huge. So ladies, if you want to, you can skip dinner at the restaurant and cook your own food. The kitchen also has a complimentary laundry service; making it a real home away from home.

FOOD

My partner is basically a carnivore. Before we even got to the restaurant – The Veranda – he knew he wanted a lamb shank, which he finished within minutes. I, on the other hand, had salmon, which was scrumptious. The restaurant has a romantic feel, plus they play old school RnB from Tamia and Brandy, so you might find yourself reminiscing about the good old days.

THINGS TO DO

The hotel also has a business feel about it. I can picture politicians and businesspeople living there for as long as their stay is in Johannesburg. Who would blame them? If you’re not a politician or business person, this hotel can still be for you. You can go bask in the sun next to the heated swimming pool and for fitness fanatics, there’s a fitness centre overlooking the gardens with state-of-the-art equipment and a free weight area.

HIGHLIGHT

The highlight for me has to be the spacious homely rooms. They have flat-screen TVs in the bedroom and the living room, so no more fighting for the remote for as long as you’re there.

The location makes it the best place, its right in the hub of Sandton, so it’s great for a quick getaway. Whether you want to take the whole family or just enjoy some me-time, The Capital 20 West is the best place for you.
