5 Mins With Nambitha Mpumlwana

Today marks the end of the road for Ashes to Ashes season 1. To help us celebrate the ending of this telenovela, lead actress Nambitha Mpumlwana, chats to us about her journey and what we should expect tonight on the season finale. Nombitha-2B--008

How has the journey on Ashes to Ashes been?

It has been one of the most elevating experiences of my career. It has done wonders for both the cast and crew in terms of learning about each other. We went into that experience with open arms and I don’t think you can find a crew member who won’t testify on that.

What have been some of your favourite moments on the show?

It has been meeting the rest of the cast, one cameo role at a time. With each cameo that came, we discovered ourselves and stepped up our game.

After so many years on TV, do you still get nervous watching yourself?

I watch the episodes when they screen with the rest of the country and I struggle so much, because I am always thinking about how to improve my acting technically. My friends don’t even enjoy going to the movies with me anymore because of the way I am. I notice every detail and that’s what I do, even when I watch myself. nambitha-Mpumlwana

You and most of the cast members acted together on Generations. What was different this time?

We treated each day and each conversation as new. If, as a person, you are able to honour each moment when it comes, you can play any part without feeling nostalgia. Also, training goes a long way into making you respect your character. If all you do is read lines, then you will sound the same everywhere you go. But you take it deeper by thinking about relationships and how you relate to the character. Also, our roles in Generations were not the same. For instance, on Generations, I loved and embraced Zenande Mfenyana as my daughter; but on Ashes to Ashes, I didn’t like her much as my daughter.

What’s next for Nambitha?

Anyone who knows me know I don’t really like talking about what’s next until it happens. But, stay glued to your screens; I’m sure with God, something will come up.

What can we expect on the last episode on Ashes to Ashes tonight?

The message that Ashes to Ashes has shown through Mandlakazi is that a mother’s love goes a long way. So, mothers will love and relate to this episode, and everyone who’s been mothered will relate a lot. So much is going to happen tonight, please watch! Catch a few clips from Ashes to Ashes below.
