Samkelisiwe Mthabela from Durban is the lucky winner of Dawn’s R100 000 prize!
Imagine winning a life-changing prize that can help you get what you really want for your life? Samkelisiwe knows what that is like and has decided she will use her Dawn prize to fund her studies to achieve her life-long dream of becoming a lawyer. “I believe that there are too few female lawyers in the industry, and I want to change that,” she says.
Education isn’t all that is important to her; Samkelisiwe is family-orientated and wants to make them proud by becoming the first member of her family to achieve a law degree. She makes to stay on top of current affairs and likes to keep active. Netball, a favourite pass-time she still enjoys from her high school days, ensures this, but also provides an opportunity to send time with her friends.
What makes you happy?
Playing netball, reading newspapers, spending time with my family, getting an education and giving back to my community.
How will this prize influence your life?
The prize will help me become independent, put me in a position to help others and achieve my dream of becoming a lawyer. I would also love to get a makeover.
