Muzart hit the ground running when they came into the scene – everyone loved their different sound. Now, the question is will their sound change following the departure of two members of the band?

The news of the splitting up of the band has left fans wondering if Muzart still exists or not. We got to sit down with band members Rorisang, Tazzy and Victor who have great news to share about their direction musically.
1. You’ve recently released the hit track Get Down; tell us more about this jam?
Victor:
The single is a fresh sound. We wanted to give people a sound of our upcoming album, so if people love Get Down then they’ll love the album.
Tazzy:
It is a feel-good song; and the idea was to go back in time. We grew up around a lot of music and want to fuse our instrumental influences together to create one sound. The jam has a fusion of local and international flavour to it; it’s all sentimental.
2. There have been rumours that the band is breaking up after the split, no one really knows what’s happening with Muzart…
Rorisang:
Muzart is still around. It is partly our fault that people were confused or that there were rumours. We did not speak openly about the split, but we are now open to answering questions and share the details with the media.
3. Will this affect the sound we know?
Tazzy:
When people heard the band was splitting, they automatically thought our sound would be different. We will still continue making music as Muzart. What people don’t know is that the three of us compiled the music of the band; so the sound will not have a drastic change.
4. Why exactly did the band split?
Tazzy:
We had different directions as band members and aiming for different growth patterns. What we wanted was alien to what those who left wanted and vice versa. Once you see a change and the directions don’t match, you are bound to fail if you stay together. Like in any relationship, you need to see the people eye to eye in order for that relationship to work. We were happy to have them on board and we support them on their new music journey as Smiley Freaks.
Rorisang:
To be frank, we’d drifted apart as a band before splitting officially. When something goes wrong, it’s only human nature to try preventing it. We tried to make the bad work as the five of us, but we could no longer run away from the problems we faced – we had to admit our faults, trust in God and move forward. The split was not easy; it didn’t just happen. There were many talks and discussions on how we’d move forward before we made the final decision.
5. Many other bands could be going through a similar situation, but are uncertain about splitting. What’s your advice to them?
Victor:
When you see the need to split with anyone – be it a band member or partner – it is because you no longer see growth. So despite how hard it may be to end things with that person, you need to do it.
Rorisang:
It is important to remember why you got into that band or relationship in the first place. If the reasons are no longer the same, then you can’t force the matter. People may try to box you as a band, but you need to remember what’s best for you. We made our own decision; we’ve held ourselves accountable for the split and are able to live with it.
6. Will the dynamics of the band change now that there are only three of you?
Rorisang:
Things are working beautifully. We’ve always contributed equally. Each of us takes part in every aspect of making the music.
Tazzy:
When you work with a big team, there are a lot of compromises you have to make. Because the three of us were the initial creators of the Muzart sound, we will continue to work the way we used to. Each band member has their own responsibility. Victor and I will work on the beats while Rorisang adds a few changes.
7. Speaking of roles, what are each person’s in the band?
Victor:
I am the timekeeper and remind everyone about appointments. I also follow up with everyone as the organised one in the band. Rorisang: I am the bookkeeper. I am often referred to as the loud mouth.
Tazzy:
I am the calm one, with the chill factor. The band likes to think that I am a good judge of character and am level-headed because I always have the last word and my word is always best.
8. There have been a lot of assumptions and rumours, what do you want people to know about the band?
Victor:
People need to know we’re not a pop group. We make every kind of genre and music – from soul, funk and many others. People should not box us.
Tazzy:
People need to know we make our own music from scratch.
Rorisang:
People need to know we are not about the hype. Sure, you’ll see us at a few events, but we are a chilled band. We are not about the craze.
