Our Woman Crush Wednesday this week is the incredibly talented Simphiwe Dana. The singer who was our September 2014 cover star is one of the best musicians in South Africa at the moment. Her lyrics are poetic and the songs are produced spectacularly well.
We also love how outspoken she is on issues around women empowerment and patriarchy in our society. She uses her social media platforms to educate and call out wrong doing and that is vital in a world where many use their platforms to shame and degrade others.
Here are some of our favourite statements from her:
There are many things poverty can be blamed. The brutalization of women is not one of them. You tried it

Things that people who don’t wanna empathize with women say. Utter hogwash ???????? https://t.co/tBLGvGA1Jq — Firebrand (@simphiwedana) October 13, 2015
The most shameful thing is admitting you were assaulted. You must explain your helplessness and own it. Do not be silenced, you matter

The attacks on feminism are the same everywhere. Don’t let them cower you. We are winning ????????. Freedom for women is freedom for everyone — Firebrand (@simphiwedana) October 9, 2015
Anyone who gets angry when Africans discuss ways that they have been shortchanged really should do some introspection
