UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and his team are open to undefeated contender Movsar Evloev getting the next shot at the title.

Volkanovski (27-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC) regained his belt in dominant fashion with a unanimous decision win over Diego Lopes at UFC 314 in Miami. Despite the quick turnaround from his previous loss, Volkanovski looked sharp and composed, controlling the pace and showcasing his well-rounded skill set throughout the fight.

His head coach, Joe Lopez, is aware of the threat Evloev (19-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) poses, particularly with his strong wrestling game. However, Lopez is confident that Volkanovski’s physicality and experience will make the difference.

“I think he’s a good wrestler, but he doesn’t really do much once he gets someone down,” Lopez told Submission Radio. “He kind of just holds on, and that’s what makes him a bit boring. I don’t think he’ll be able to hang onto Volk like that.”

Lopez highlighted Volkanovski’s strength, scrambling ability, and fight IQ as key advantages in a potential matchup.

“Volk’s just so strong. His jiu-jitsu and wrestling are at another level. He picks things up so fast,” Lopez said. “By the end of camp for the Lopes fight, Alex was handling everything we threw at him. When he gets on top of you, it’s not just control – he’s landing big shots. It’s not somewhere you want to be.”

Lopes presented some unique threats with his slick guard and submissions, but Volkanovski passed that test with flying colors. That performance only boosted the team’s belief that they’ll be ready for whatever Evloev brings to the table.

Evloev has made a name for himself as one of the division’s top prospects with a perfect record and a suffocating ground game. While not known for highlight-reel finishes, he has consistently out-grappled opponents and remained unbeaten in his UFC run.

Volkanovski has already stated his intention to stay active, and a showdown with Evloev appears likely later this year. The champion’s willingness to defend quickly, coupled with Evloev’s rise, sets the stage for a compelling title bout.
