There’s no two ways about it when it comes to your eyebrows: you either love them, or you loathe them. The good news for those who fall into the latter category is that make-up was invented for just that reason – you can turn your non-existent brows into ones to envy with a few clever tricks.
However, you can just as easily get it oh-so wrong, which is why everyone should familiarize themselves with these common brow mistakes that you might be making… You’re welcome!
1. You’re trying to make them identical. This is virtually impossible, since no one’s face is completely symmetrical. Chances are, the shape of your eyes may differ slightly, and the way each eyebrow lies is not exactly the same. The more you try to make them identical, the more you’re going to pluck; and we all know that over-plucking is the cardinal sin of brow maintenance. Think of eyebrows as siblings rather than identical twins, and you’ll be on the right path.

2. You’re using the wrong colour make-up. If you fill in your brows with a brow pencil, you need to make sure you’re using the correct shade, otherwise you could end up looking like an incredibly angry version of yourself. Opt for a pencil that is a shade or two lighter than your actual hair colour; it will look more natural, far less harsh and will be way more forgiving if you make any mistakes.
3. You’re using that dreaded magnifying mirror. Let’s be honest: no one should have to see themselves magnified like that, and while the magnifying mirror does have its place, this is not it. You need to be at least an arm’s length away from the mirror in a place with great natural light; this will let you see the hairs that are true strays, keep tabs on how much you’ve plucked and see how your brows look overall.
4. You’re arching in the wrong place. Everyone has a natural place where the brow arches (no matter how small the arch may be), and this should not be ignored. An arch in the wrong place – and one that’s too angled – will make you look unnaturally angry or like something is just, off. Rather than trying to fake an arch. focus on enhancing your natural one.
To find the best place to enhance your natural arch, angle your brow pencil from the bottom corner of your nose (next to the nostril) up towards the centre of your iris; where the pencil cuts the brow should be the highest point of your arch.

5. You’re making the gap between your brows too big. It’s true that no one wants a unibrow, but making the gap between the two brows too big will leave you looking slightly off balance. To find where each eyebrow should begin, line up your pencil from the bottom corner of your nose, going diagonally up (against your nose). Draw a line at the top of your nose to mark the beginning of the brows.
6. You’re forgetting about the experts. Avoid all brow mistakes and visit one of the many brow bars around the country and let the experts construct the perfect shape for your face. Even if you just do this now and again so that you can maintain the shape yourself in between, this is your safest bet for getting your eyebrows looking perfect.
