Who doesn’t love a good multi-purpose product? Especially when it’s extremely cheap and loaded with lots of benefits.
Clere brand manager Kateko Ramoshaba says that taking good care of your skin doesn’t necessarily mean breaking the bank. Petroleum jelly, a common inexpensive product found in most people’s bathroom cabinets and bags, can have multiple skin care uses for the entire family.
Here are some unbelievable uses that you didn’t know
- Hydrate your lips
Prevent chapped lips or soothe sad ones by applying a thin layer of Petroleum Jelly to your lips day and night. Petroleum jelly moisturises and hydrates, while leaving lips with the perfect natural-looking shine.

- Moisturise dry hands and cracked heels
Dry hands and feet are the worst — they’re embarrassing, painful, and dry skin totally puts a damper on freshly painted nails. Plus, winter is here, which means your skin needs all the moisture it can get. Apply a generous amount of petroleum jelly to your hands and feet at night and cover them up with socks or gloves. You’ll wake up in the morning to find noticeably softer skin.
- Brow taming
Skip the overpriced and under delivering brow gel and tame unruliness with a dab of petroleum jelly instead. Lightly coat a brow wand in the jelly and comb brows in place.
- Keep fingers and cuticles clean while painting nails
Not all of us are master manicurists, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have beautiful DIY manis. Get perfectly painted nails without the worry about getting polish all over by simply applying a thin coat of petroleum jelly (use a cotton bud) around your finger nails and cuticles. The jelly will not only moisturise your cuticles, but it will more importantly act as a barrier to keep sneaky polish from attaching itself where it’s not welcome. Just be sure not to get any petroleum jelly on your fingernails, or else it will act as a barrier against your polish.

- Make a base for DIY exfoliators
Mix some sugar or salt with Petroleum Jelly for an amazing exfoliator for your body or, apply a layer to your lips to gently buff away dead skin cells. Use a soft toothbrush, sweeping in circular motions, for unbelievably smooth lips.
- Longer and thicker eyelashes
This is an unbelievable miracle of petroleum jelly. Apply it onto your eyelashes every night before going to bed and you’ll notice longer and much thicker eyelashes within a couple of weeks.
- Get a dewy glow
Apply a tiny amount of petroleum jelly with your fingertips to the top of your cheek and brow bones for a fresh, dewy look. Just remember, a little goes a long way, so don’t go overboard.
- Smooth fly aways and pesky split ends
Make split ends and flyaway hairs magically disappear with a light coating of petroleum jelly. Once again, a little goes a very long way, so get a super small amount on your fingers and wipe those rogue hairs back into place.
- Face moisturiser
Clere Pure Petroleum Jelly is non-comedogenic (so it’s unlikely to clog up your pores), hypoallergenic, non-irritating, non-sensational, and has no added fragrance or colours, making it the perfect face moisturiser. Apply it on your whole face every night before bed. You’ll notice the visible difference in moisture and smoothness in your face.
- Make up remover
Did you know you can use petroleum jelly to wipe the day away? Petroleum jelly is a better make up removing option. Some make up removers, or baby oils contain ingredients that may irritate the eyes. Petroleum jelly is very mild and safe to use.
