From Big Brother to Diski Divas, Blue Mbombo has become the talk of the town. We get the scoop on her beauty tricks and trades.
What beauty tip would you share with a complete stranger?
Confidence! No amount of make-up, styling or money can compare to that. It’s so clear when someone lacks confidence. So, always wear your best smile and have confidence because that will always look better than any lipstick.
What is your favourite hair trend at the moment?
I am in love with ash blonde hair – I think it looks amazing. The best look for it is when you have it looking almost white (the lightest shade available) and still adding highlights to it.
And your winter make-up tricks?
I think every woman should have red lipstick for winter. This mustn’t be the bright lipstick that works for summer, but a deeper shade like maroon. Winter needs warming up and the rich shades of lipstick always work. Save your bright colours, like orange and pink, for summer and enjoy the darker shades on your lips and nails.
Which beauty trend do you hate at the moment?
I don’t like the thick eyebrow trend that is big now because people are doing it completely wrong. The thick eyebrows don’t work for everyone because we don’t all have naturally thick eyebrows. Using black eyeliner looks like a crayon drawing. Those who want to do it should go on YouTube, watch tutorials and use brown eyeliners to help make their eyebrows appear natural.
What look have you struggled with?
I use to struggle with contouring; I didn’t understand the different shades that needed to be applied. Mbali, who was in the Big Brother house with me, taught me how to master it and I love it.
What are your go-to hair tricks?
I love two products: Hair Growth and Edge Control from Ruutos. I had a receding hairline, which has recovered now.
What is your go-to hairstyle that never fails you?
A straight long weave. No matter what the season, one can never go wrong with that look. I love a long weave in cheery red or chocolate brown.
What beauty advice do you have for our readers?
Never be afraid to follow and try out trends. Not everything will work for you and that’s okay. Just don’t be afraid to explore and try new things.
