Do you end up with dry, cracked and peeling lips when using matte lipstick? You are not alone. Knowing how to apply matte lipstick is tricky for even those women who’ve been using makeup for many years. We’ve come up with a few guidelines to ensure that your final results are moisturised, plump and kissable lips.
Here are 3 tips to apply matte lipstick:
1. Exfoliate your lips. You have two options here. You can buy a lip exfoliator that use use daily or you can apply a lot of Vaseline onto your lips before going to sleep at night. For the second option you will use a toothbrush to gently scrub your lips in the morning. Be very gentle when doing this; you don’t want to cut or hurt yourself. All you want to do is remove all the excess skin.

2. Moisturise. Apply a small amount of lip balm/moisturiser/Vaseline to the lips. Just because you’re going matte doesn’t mean your lips have to be completely dry. After you’ve applied the moisturiser, pat your lips down once with tissue so you’re moisturised without being glossy.

3. Apply your lipstick. Now you can apply a good quality matte lipstick. Make sure that you’re not too liberal with your application, you don’t want it to appear too thick on your lips. Just enough for good coverage.
And voila! You are ready to step out in style.
