There are old wives’ tales for just about everything, and this is particularly evident in the beauty world. Here are 5 Skincare myths we all need to stop believing.

Myth 1: If you have oily skin you should ease up on the moisturiser.
Truth: Moisturiser hydrates your skin, so taking this away will dehydrate and dry out your skin, forcing it to produce even more oil in an attempt to rehydrate itself. Oily skin is actually often an indicator that your skin lacks moisture. If you’re struggling with oily skin or acne, don’t try and ‘dry’ it out! Instead, treat your skin gently and make sure you apply a very nourishing cream at night.

Myth 2: Your skin starts getting used to your products, so you need to switch them up regularly.
Truth: A good skincare routine is often rather difficult to come by, so when you’ve found one that works for you, stick with it. We do recommend changing things up seasonally; for example, you will probably need a more intense moisturiser in winter than you would in summer, but other than that, don’t mess with a good thing!
Myth 3: The more expensive the product, the better it is for your skin.
Truth: It’s the active ingredients that really matter, not how fancy the packaging is. If a product (and its price!) appeals to you and suits your skins’ needs, give it a fair shot – you may be pleasantly surprised!
Myth 4: Great products will get rid of wrinkles.
Truth: Good creams are able to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and some may prevent the onset of them, but none are able to actually take them away completely, so we say embrace your wisdom and laugh lines (and use sunscreen)!

Myth 5: If your make-up has SPF in it, you can skip sunscreen altogether.
Truth: While some SPF is certainly better than no SPF at all, relying on what’s in your make-up won’t cut it. So, if you’re looking for an adequate two-in-one product, rather search for a sunblock with added moisturising benefits.
