When it comes to trying to choose the right skincare range and routine for your skin type it can be rather overwhelming.
‘Your skin type is determined by a number of factors including your genes, environment, lifestyle and hormonal changes, but your skin condition is largely determined by your skincare regime,’ explains Swedish beauty brand FOREO’s PR Manager for the MEA region, Daria Jelavic.
The first step in finding the right routine for your skin is to identify your skin type. Below, Jelavic shares her tips on identifying your skin type and what kind of routine to implement for the best results and to fall in love with your skincare routine all over again:
Combination skin
This two in one skin type can be frustrating and having to deal with two completely opposing skin problems can be stressful. It seems like large pores and troublesome blackheads go hand in hand. However, you can treat them both the same way with daily cleansing, moisturising, and exfoliating. Oily areas occur when your body is trying to hydrate your skin. By applying a high-quality serum or moisturiser with hyaluronic acid, ceramides that provide hydration your skin will not need to overcompensate with oil production.
Well-balanced
You’re one of the lucky ones, born with flawless skin genes. However, just because your skin is nearly problem-free shouldn’t equal complacency. Your pores are probably on the smaller side – which is great – but that doesn’t make them immune to blackheads. You still need a regular skincare routine to stave off the occasional breakout. Using FOREO’s recently launched LUNA 3, the first ever skincare device on the market that combines an ultra-soft, hygienic cleanse with a variety of targeted firming massage routines all controlled, as a part of your regular routine to keep blemishes at bay before they appear.
Sensitive skin
Your skin is fussy and requires full-time maintenance. However, that’s not always a bad thing. In a way, your skin warns you against harmful ingredients and harsh environmental factors. A lot of moisturisers and cleansers have ingredients that strip away moisture instead of locking it in. To fight dryness, try to use ingredients that are natural and hydrating. If your skin reddens or burns easily, then it’s likely that you have a poor reaction to products. Do your homework; invest in products made for sensitive skin and always do a patch test. Sensitive skin makes it more difficult to exfoliate regularly, which is one of the ways to minimise lines
