Former Idols judge Unathi Nkayi opened up about her mental struggles to her followers. She spoke on how she’s been using therapy and exercise to overcome the mental health challenges she faced after “losing it all”.
Taking to her Instagram, Unathi expressed how her journey of healing was the toughest time of her life and nearly had to put her on medication as she had reached “rock bottom.”
She expressed to her followers saying that she has “been through the most vigorous and painful year of therapy of my life because I lost everything due to a one sided story that many were too keen to believe.”
“In May my therapist wanted to put me on meds. Anxiety pills and tranquillisers because I had hit rock bottom. We decided against the meds BUT that meant I had to force myself to get into a routine which included exercise. To show up for myself.”
“My father said ‘Be regular with your therapy and then sit back and watch them turn against each other. They will because there is no integrity amongst the 3 people who conspired against you in this matter,” she wrote in her Instagram post.”
“My therapy session today was cathartic to say the least.”

The media personality was fired from Kaya 959 radio station in November 2021 after her dispute with Sizwe Dhlomo for accusing him of verbal abuse and unprofessional conduct. Subsequently, Unathi cancelled some gigs.
Due to the changes of the judging panel for season 18 of Idols SA in 2022 saw her axed after being on the show for 10 seasons.
