Social media is a great place to express yourself. Just follow these celebrities to see what we mean.
Nonhle Thema
So the BET Awards happened last weekend, and as we all know, Bonang Matheba and Minnie Dlamini were working on the red carpet. This is a huge achievement for them, which is why applauding them is the right thing to do, right? Well, not according to Nonhle. The presenter-turned-actress took to Instagram to remind us that she did it first. She posted pictures of her and international celebs including Bow Wow and Omarion, and captioned her pics “When folks act all brand new about going to America…I’m like boo I lived in LA for almost 7 years of my life in my 20s…It’s okay. ..Relax….u ain’t the first one to go there. chill….ok.” [sic] Talk about throwing shade, Nonhle. But we still love you.
AKA
“AKA is a beast, he’s a problem though.” – His words, not ours. Just like Nonhle, AKA has had a few rants on Twitter. The one that we all remember is about people who ask to take a picture with him but haven’t bought his latest album, Levels. He complained and said next time fans want to ask for a selfie with him, they must know a couple of songs from his albums. Well, alright then Kiernan.
Bonnie Mbuli
Though Bonnie’s rant is a bit old, we had to include it because it was a classic. If you remember well, Bonnie was married to Sisanda Henna, who happens to be Xhosa. The couple divorced in 2012. Clearly this divorce didn’t sit well with Bonnie because in 2013, she to Twitter to ‘warn’ ladies about Xhosa men. She said “if you want to be treated like a slave, marry a Xhosa man.” We don’t know what happened in her marriage, but clearly there were a few times where she had to mess up her manicure to do what all brides are expected to do, which is ukukotiza.
Dineo Ranaka
Though Dineo’s rant was for a good cause, it was still a rant nonetheless. The feisty businesswoman and reality TV star took to Instagram to express herself over the recent xenophobic attacks that happened in South Africa. She said, “I am ASHAMED to be South African today. Because from where I sit, my contribution is limited to an Instagram post. What can one do really? The vast of us feel helpless. Such f****ry!”. Eish…
Lerato Kganyago
Lerato doesn’t really rant on social media, but she confronts bullies. She’s had twars (Twitter war) with Kuli Roberts, Penny Lebyane, Sizwe Dhlomo, among many other celebs. We don’t have much to say about this except, Lerato, you don’t have to react to everything. As Nonhle Thema would say, sit down.
Cassper Nyovest
Cassper was not happy with the organisers of the SAMAs because he thought his track, Doc Shebeleza, would be nominated in the Record of the Year category. But to his surprise, things didn’t happen the way he wanted them to. When the nominees were announced and Doc Shebeleza wasn’t on the list, he wasn’t pleased. He tweeted, “I’ve lost all confidence in winning anything at the @TheSAMAs, which is cool but may you answer our questions at least?”. Oh Cassper…
