Ava DuVernay‘s series, When They See Us, is leading the 2019 Emmy nominations. The critically acclaimed series earned a staggering 16 nominations, making it Netflix‘s most-nominated series at the 2019 Emmys. The nominations include outstanding limited series, lead actor & actress in a limited series or movie, and a directing nomination for Ava.

The four-part series is based on a group of five black teenagers, known as the Central Park Five, who were wrongfully convicted for the rape of a jogger in New York in 1989.
