The third edition of the SoundCity MVP Awards Festival was hosted on Saturday, 05 January 2019 at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Being one of the music events which celebrates and acknowledges African artists from around the continent, we were quite excited when our very own May cover star Busiswa was one of the South Africans nominated for an award.
Busiswa scores big at the SOUNDCITY MVP Awards in Lagos
Nominated for Best Female MVP alongside Tiwa Savage, Niniola, Simi, Yemi Alade, Shekhinah, Lady Zamar, Efya, Becca, and Mua Sama. We were so excited when they announced Busiswa as the Best Female MVP. Giving her acceptance speech, Busiswa thanked Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade for helping her believe that she could be a boss on her own continent and went on to encourage all girls from the rural areas and townships of South Africa that if she could do it then anyone can do it!

Fans react on Twitter
And while we know the type of energy and high-level performance Busiswa brings everytime she’s on stage, it was a kind of a shocker for those experiencing it for the first time and needless to say their reactions were priceless.
This Busiswa’s performance is the level Teni must get to. She totally killed it; and as my friend said, the hallmark of a great performer is to kill it in a country you aren’t well known.

Busiswa secures another bag
And while Busiswa is paving the way of what Gqom music is and how it should sound it is no wonder that she was selected to co-host the new season of Gqom Nation alongside our March 2018 cover star Ntando Duma. The show will be premiering on MTV Base South Africa on Friday, 25 January 2019 at 18:00 CAT.
