Caiphus Semenya still going strong

Legendary musician Caiphus Semenya has brought us classics such as Nomalanga and Ziph’inkomo. Our features writer, Fundiswa Nkwanyana caught up with him to chat about his upcoming performance at the 20th Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival.

1. I’m honoured to be a part of the festival’s line-up. I enjoy singing and performing, and plan to continue for as long as I can. Being 78 years old, I have been performing for many years. So, it makes me happy that people still want to see me on stage.

2. I can’t wait to share the stage with remarkable musicians. International and local musicians are invited to the festival to entertain music lovers. Additionally, the fact that young and old musicians will be showcasing their talent under the same roof makes it more enjoyable.

3. I will definitely perform some of my classic hit songs. My fans still enjoy them because of the special memories the old songs bring. But, I will put a bit of a twist that I’m sure my fans will appreciate.

The 20th Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival is scheduled to take place from 28 to 30 September at the Sandton Convention Centre.
