In accordance with the Chinese saying that “good things come in twos”, we have compiled a list of sisters who grew up together, looked up to each other and continue to be a part of each other’s lives – in fame.
From Beyonce and Solange to Manaka and Dineo, the bond between sisters can be complicated but is always very special. What these sisters have in common is the world they live in, which is different to the life and world of ordinary sisters; it’s life in the public eye and the world of celebrities.
Solange and Beyonce
Bigger sister Beyonce is a world icon in music and Solange has followed suit by going into the music industry as well – but is better known for her unique sense of fashion and natural being. Vocal talent and stardom clearly run in the family as both of these gorgeous sisters are nothing short of amazing talent and a great work ethic to match.
Serena and Venus Williams
Legends in the sport of tennis, these sisters who are only a year apart, started playing tennis at the age of four and were already competing at five years of age. They have both been through a lot together – from growing up in a rough neighbourhood, facing criticism on the courts based on their race and their family, and much more. Yet, even with the many wins and losses together and against each other, they are still very close.
Manaka and Dineo Ranaka
We know Dineo as the YFM DJ who never shies away from expressing her opinion, even if it hurts someone. She has transformed since her YFM days and is a star in her reality TV show Dineo’s Diary where cameras follow her as she pursues her dream in fashion designing. Older sister Manaka seems the more serious one and is known for her role in comedy shows and dramas such as Stokvel, Home Affairs, Zabalaza, Tshisa and a few others.
Hlelo and Ntando Masina
These twin sisters from Benoni first made their mark in celebville when they joined the YFM crew as hosts of their own show called Double Up. Their bubbly, but very different personalities and funky styles are part of the reason South Africa fell in love with them. Their e.tv reality show, Blame It On Fame, ran for two seasons. They have since left YFM and started an organisation called Campaigne For Girls.
Zonke and Lulu Dikane
Born in the Eastern Cape, the two sisters are known to have always been very close and have always supported each other. Both of them produce music in the Afro-soul genre and have very distinct voices. They supported each other after the loss of both parents and a sister. Despite their losses, they continue to make waves in the music industry with their beautiful voices and well-written melodies.
Ntsiki and Thandiswa Mazwai
Ntsiki is a well-known poet whose work has been published in a very personal anthology titled “Wena.” She has a large following on Twitter, and is known for her outspoken nature, artwork and beading skills. Thandiswa is a well-respected artist on demand in the music industry. She is known for her original sense of style and also her ablitiy to make music that is urban but still very true to its traditional roots.
