Chadwick Boseman is set to make history again as he prepared to star as Japan’s first African Samurai. According to Deadline, the film adaptation of Yasuke will see the star play the first African to wield a sword. Yasuke was a native Portuguese Mozambique who was brought to Japan as a slave.

Speaking to the magazine, Chadwick shared his excitement at playing the role sharing in part; “The legend of Yasuke is one of history’s best-kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai. That’s not just an action movie, that’s a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it.”
