Chiedza Mhende – Gracing the theatre stage

Generations: The Legacy actress Chiedza Mhende tells us about being part of a theatre production titled Chasing Chairs.

1. I’m excited to be playing Kat in Chasing Chairs.
I have put my heart and soul in the character, and I’m excited to be sharing a special part of me on the theatre stage. The play is about love and the complexities that we face as we seek to love and be loved. It’s presented on a beautiful colour palate stage, with emotive soundtracks that complement it. Attendees will be in for a treat.

2. I still enjoy the thrill of live performances.
The adrenaline rush before, during and after a performance is an exciting feeling. I also enjoy seeing the direct responses from the audience and feeding off that energy. It’s a unique and pleasurable experience.

3. I’ve learnt so much about myself from taking part in the play.
Being back in theatre has challenged and blessed me. This is because it allows me to return to the purity of my artistic expression while also giving me a safe place to be vulnerable in.

*Chasing Chairs plays at the Market Theatre from 14 July to 6 August, and tickets are available at markettheatre.co.za
