She is a television presenter, actress On Scandal!, and now the lead actress on the romantic comedy Mrs Right Guy, which will soon hit SA. The film was directed by Nigerian-born filmmaker Adze Ugah who says the movie was perfectly crafted for Dineo Moeketsi’s big screen debut. The storyline, which involves the challenges facing contemporary single women in their search for a mate, is relevant now. The film reflects the complications millennials face as they try to find true love. She tells us about her role in the movie and more.

1.Apart from being against relationships and men, what is your character Gugu like?
Gugu has grown up with the curse of being the It girl; the most beautiful, and wanted by everyone. She is the kind of woman who walks out of her yard and is beset by guys asking her out, and trying to ‘mack’ or flirt with her. Being raised by Gog’ Agnes has saved her – the older woman warns her off boys and their slick ways. She eluded all of them, until she met Sipho who showed her that her grandmother was right when he persuades her, wins, marries, bonks and leaves her penniless on an island paradise.
2.You worked with a stellar cast that included Thapelo Mokoena and Thando Thabethe; how was the experience?
We are all part of an amazing romantic comedy told well by a great director. I loved being in the company of my crew; they were incredible. Everyone put their hearts into making it work.
3. How do you think South Africans will relate to the movie?
The film is about love, which everyone can relate to on one level or another. However, the movie puts into perspective that not everyone is trying to find love in a relationship, but we can all find ourselves happy in it.
4. You are in a public relationship that has lasted a long time; what do you think the key to making it work is?
It’s okay to be mad; take the time out to get angry instead of keeping your emotions to yourself. Be sure about your feelings with your partner because if you’re not, it will break you. Be realistic with yourself and the state of things in your relationships, because you set yourself up for disappointment if you don’t.
5. What is your favourite romantic comedy of all time?
The American film Love and Basketball.
6. With your first big role out of the way, what’s next?
My goal now is to become the next silver screen star, by doing more films locally and internationally.
