The 25th annual South African Music Awards will honour veteran musicians HHP, TKZee and Mango Groove with Lifetime Achievement Awards. According to a statement from the SAMAs, the awards are in recognition of their achievements in music.
HHP will be honoured for his firsts; being the first artist to rap over a Kwaito beat and the first to have multiple successful syn deal.
Mango Groove, which was formed in 1984, will be honored for their outstanding contribution to South African music.
Kabelo Mabalane, Zwai Bala and Tokollo Tshabalala, who formed kwaito group TZKee, will be celebrated for being the bestselling kwaito group.
Head of the Recording Industry of South Africa (Risa) Nhlanhla Sibisi said in the statement: “TKZee heralded the early days of freedom with a sound so fresh and invigorating that they became legends in a short space of time. HHP entrenched and adapted the culture of hip hop to a South African audience as he shunned twanging and instead made Setswana fashionable,”

HHP’s wife, Lerato Sengadi took to social media to express her gratitude to the SAMAs for the recognition. She shared in part: “I feel BEYOND blessed to have played a role in making this happen for him.”
