Nakhane’s impressive rise to stardom continued this weekend when the singer was interviewed by Sir Elton John on Beats 1 Radio
It’s not everyday that a local artist is interviewed by a knighted musical legend and Mzansi was on hand to congratulate Nakhane after his latest career milestone.
The interview, which was aired around the world and is available for streaming, Nakhane opened up about the realities of living in a semi-conservative South Africa.

The singer and Inxeba actor has received mixed criticism in the past year following his role in the award-winning film. Inxeba was greeted with anger from the South African Xhosa community, an attitude that many believed stemmed from homophobia.
Speaking to Elton John, Nakhane reflected on the reality of being a black, gay man in South Africa
“As much as our constitution in South Africa is really liberal, the real world is a different place sometimes. I’ve had to kick down some doors yeah.”
I FaceTimed @eltonjohn for his @beats1official Rocket Hour show. The show will air at the following times:

Nakhane was interviewed on Elton John’s Rocket Hour, the British singer’s show on Beats 1 Radio. It wasn’t an entirely political discussion; Nakhane also took a moment to praise Elton John’s music. The South African singer reflected on listening to the Rocket Man’s music while growing up:
“My mother had an Elton John ‘Love Songs’ compilation that I listened to a lot as a child. Never did I think that one day I would be FaceTiming him. It is absurd – in the best possible way, of course. This unsolicited kindness and support is so appreciated,”
