Plans for the late Linda Mkhize’s funeral are well underway and it looks as if the government will be assisting with his burial
This comes after a number of fundraising events were either held or proposed in order to ensure that the late rapper, popularly known as ProKid, could be sent off with grace. The Mkhize family has been reportedly trying their best to put money together in order to afford all of ProKid’s burial costs.
After seeing the family’s struggles, however, the South African Department of Arts and Culture has now intervened and offered to foot the bill of the funeral.
On Monday, the Gauteng Arts and Culture MEC, Faith Mazibuko, revealed that they would be assisting the Mkhize family where needed when she said: “We will be celebrating life. He (ProKid) contributed. He was not just born, lived and died. We are here to assist. The family is in charge, we are here to close the gaps.”
This announcement has sped up funeral plans and it looks as if Prokid will be buried at the same cemetery as Mandoza and Robbie Malinga
#Prokid will reportedly be buried on Sunday at the Heroes Acres in Westpark Cemetery, which is the resting place of the late musicians such as Mandoza and Robbie Malinga – SA Breaking News https://t.co/ayyIRmHrcS

The financial aspect of this funeral has shed light on a problem that we’ve seen in entertainment before: where a legendary artist passes away but has not left enough money for his/her burial costs
The debate around how South Africa “allows” its biggest stars to die penniless came up once again this week and Kwaito star, L’Vovo shared his opinion on the matter and he pointed the finger of blame in South Africa’s direction.
Speaking on social media he said: “When we’re alive government rather give foreign artists money. Beyoncé and Drake don’t need more private jets and mansions. South African media and government hates local artists. We’re broke because we are not supported at home. If only you guys understood how this thing is so tough. I don’t blame people who die broke. It’s tough being in the spotlight, life is expensive. Artists/celebs are ‘expected’ to ‘have it all’ and the ‘best of everything’. Kanti akuhambi kanjalo. Lento inzima.”
Do you think this is the reason why many of our stars die broke?
