Love Back returns to Mzansi Magic with Wright Ngubeni as the presenter. Wright chats to us about this gig, other job titles and the love in his life.
What is your favourite meal?
Traditionally prepared oxtail. I love African food – be it South African or Nigerian, I will simply eat it.
Is there any meal you can cook well?
I am not a good cook. However, I can hook up a nice breakfast. I am not always in the kitchen and don’t always eat breakfast, but I make a nice omelette.
What would be your ideal date?
I am business oriented; and also very creative, so for me an ideal date would be a business date. These are the kind of dates I attend, anyway. I go to dinner dates to seal a business deal or network. My ideal date would thus be with someone such as Bill Gates or any other prominent business person I can have a business deal with, someone I can pitch an idea to and create an investment with.
Okay, now that you have told us about your ideal business date. What would be the ideal romantic date?
I am not a romantic; I fail when it comes to that. I have always wanted to go to the Caribbean; a close friend of mine gave it great reviews, so I guess this would be the perfect place to take my date.
Apart from your television work, you also a businessman. Tell us more about that.
Yes, I am part of the SS Media Shack – a business organisation that is youth oriented. We work with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) to help the youth start their own businesses, get learnerships or internships. In total, we aim to empower them with the right resources.
SS Media is behind the SMC project, what exactly is that?
SMC stands for Self Made Cheese. We are giving young black people a platform to develop their skills and make money from whatever they are interested in.
With any business organisation, money is a problem. How are you and your team able to make money to help others?
We run a lot of campaigns and work with a lot of corporate clients and government organisations. We use the money we get to run the business and also reserve some of it to build our brand and run our lives.
What do you think is the key to a successful business career?
Perseverance! You need to know what you want, formulate how you will get it, work hard for it and be patient about the outcome. Put effort into your work and focus on the goal.
Apart from the business what else do you do?
I live in a creative space, so when I am not creative in business, I am producing and directing films. I am also working on my ghetto gospel sound. My fans should expect a single soon.
A few episodes of Love Back have been aired so far, what do you enjoy about being part of the show?
I love that there are real people telling their stories and sharing their love with South Africa. Through the show, I have learnt that there are different ways to show love. Love can thus be interpreted in different ways.
Speaking of love, have you found it?
As much as I am a public figure and people expect to know about my life, I prefer to keep this part of it private. In good time, my fans will know who the keeper of my heart is or will be.
Love Back is about finding a solution, forgiveness and a fresh start. What would be the best way for someone to get your love back?
Communication is key. You cannot get any love back if you don’t communicate what the problem is. Be open about how you feel, what the problem is and how it can be fixed. If I don’t know the problem, I won’t know how it can be solved.
