There is no denying it. Serena Williams is the most incredible athlete we have had the pleasure of witnessing in very long time.

The 33-year-old tennis player stays winning and breaking records, proving to all of us that it doesn’t matter where you come from and what your race is, you can reach and even supercede your dreams.
Congrats @serenawilliams! On to the @usopen semifinals. Directed by @cassblackbird. A video posted by Vogue (@voguemagazine) on
She is now through to the semi-finals at the US Open, which means that she is now two wins away from joining Maureen Connolly, Margaret Court and Steffi Graf as the only women to win all four major singles titles in a season.
But more than her talents on the court, we also love this woman’s fearless energy. Even when many tried to bring her down with disgusting comments about her body and physique, she didn’t let it bring her down. She continues to embrace her appearance.

She’s brought some great fashion and colour to the tennis courts. And we love how in such a white dominated industry she continues to be proudly black and herself, refusing to hide in the shadows. As the New York Times magazine notes:
“For black people, there is an unspoken script that demands the humble absorption of racist assaults, no matter the scale, because whites need to believe that it’s no big deal. But Serena refuses to keep to that script. Somehow, along the way, she made a decision to be excellent while still being Serena. She would feel what she feels in front of everyone, in response to anyone.”
We totally agree and we love her for it!
